The vast majority of Shamir works are signed. There are some works that are not signed where the lack of signature is a mystery. Some of these works are attributed to Shamir Brothers based on a number of features such as layout, design and artwork and the typography. Additional supporting factors are the advertising agency/client and date. An unsigned advertisement or poster that is unique to a specific client or unique in a time period requires special care in its attribution to a particular designer.
It is easier to attribute an unsigned advertisement to Shamir if it is a part of a series where the other items are signed. It is also easy to attribute when an image that appears in the unsigned ad or poster also appears in a signed poster or ad for the same campaign.
Most of the stamps are not signed and the identification of the designer is done by reference to detailed stamp catalogues. The same applies to designers of coins and medals. Identifying the designers of Keren Kayemet Le-Israel stamps is difficult since the KKL catalogues do not name the designers. There is also difficulty in identifying the designers of Israeli stationery (postcards, airmail letters and inland letters) of the Israeli Philatelic Services since they do not include designer names in their catalogues.
