Who is your cultural hero? Is he a hero of a television reality program? Or maybe a figure that helped you formulate your view of the world? Is it a male or a female person? Is it an existing person or a virtual one? Perhaps it is a character from the past?
We invite you to declare your cultural hero and display it on a product designed by you.
Recently, a web-site documenting and commemorating the work of the Shamir Brothers . In 1934 Gabriel and Maxim Shamir immigrated to Israel and established the " Shamir Brothers Studio " in Tel Aviv. Shamir brothers designed logos and emblems, stamps and medals, periodicals, journals, books and brochures. posters, newspaper ads, product labels and other graphic art works.
The Shamir family and Studio Elul - Visual Communication invite you to graphic art dialogue with Shamir Brothers .
Shamir Brothers designed the front side of the Bank of Israel banknotes - the second series in 1959 . The banknotes of the first series that had abstract designs were not liked by the public. The committee members that decided on the second series included graphic designers, artists (Mordechai Ardon), professor of archaeology and former chief of staff (Yigael Yadin).
The elected motif were images of: a soldier, a fisherman, a scientist, a factory worker and a pair of pioneers. On the back of the notes were archaeological discoveries and were designed by Jakob Zim. Shamir Brothers used the images of day-to day characters to represent the cultural heroes of Israeli society in those days.
The question is how did they chose to present them? Would they have chosen the same characters today? If not, who would they have chosen today? And how would they have elected to present them in their design? What colours? In a format?
You are invited to participate in this design competition of posters, medals or banknotes inspired by the Shamir brothers
