A sketch of the final version of the 1949 State Emblem

A sketch of the final version of the 1949 State Emblem will be displayed in the joint exhibition "Menorah - Cult, History and Myth" at the Vatican Museum and the Jewish Museum in Rome in mid-May 2017.

The sketch is signed by Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion and has been loaned to the exhibition by Yoram Shamir. When the Flag and Emblem committee came under criticism for the length of the selection process, Ben-Gurion said: "Choosing an emblem and a flag for the state does not happen every day"
